  Pilot Certificate - ATP airplane or Commercial airplane with instrument rating, 61.183(c)

  Minimum age – Must be 18 years old, 61.183(a)  
 

English - read, speak, write, and understand the English language, 61.183(b)

NOTE:
  • Logbook endorsements stating the flight and ground training has been accomplished are required but the logbook endorsements alone are not enough; 61.189(a) requires Instructors to log flight & ground training, this is often overlooked. All training must be logged in accordance with 61.51(a) (b) and (h) (2). You may use this sample template if you wish.

  • Qualifications of the flight instructor giving Flight or Ground training for “first-time flight instructor applicants” must be in accordance with 61.195(h)(1(ground))(2(flight))(3(FAA-approved)) also Ref. Examiners Handbook 8710.3E, Ch.14, Sec.1, Par 5 (7).
